Plant in average to lean, well-drained soil. Space 18–24 inches apart. Water thoroughly after planting. Thrives in lean conditions.

Care Tips

Water regularly the first season; once established it is highly drought tolerant. Cut back to 4–6 inches in late winter or early spring. Do not cut back in fall- the fall and winter color and structure are outstanding ornamental features. Divide every 3–5 years in spring. No fertilization needed. Shining Star is a particularly upright, well-behaved little bluestem selection that holds its form through the season without flopping. Excellent fall color in warm orange, red, and bronze tones. Largely pest-free.
