Planting and Care Guide

Planting Tips

Plant in spring or fall in well-drained to dry soil in full sun, spacing 6–12 inches apart. Pacific Blue Ice is a sempervivum (hens and chicks) with attractive, silvery blue-green rosettes tinged with pink and purple tones. It requires excellent drainage and is exceptionally drought tolerant. No soil amendment needed. Water sparingly after planting and reduce further as established.

Care Tips

Very little maintenance is required. Remove spent flower stalks after the rosette blooms and dies — the surrounding offsets (chicks) continue to fill in. Divide when clusters become overcrowded. No fertilizing needed in lean soils. Hens and chicks are essentially self-maintaining in appropriate, well-drained conditions. The attractive, colorful rosettes provide year-round interest. An excellent, low-maintenance plant for rock gardens, containers, and hot, dry sunny areas.
