Planting and Care Guide

Planting Tips

Plant in average to lean, moist to dry, well-drained soil. Space 18–24 inches apart. Water thoroughly after planting. This compact native goldenrod adapts to a wide range of soil conditions.

Care Tips

Water regularly after planting; once established it is quite drought tolerant and adaptable to lean, dry conditions. Cut to the ground in late fall or early spring. Divide every 3–4 years in spring. No fertilization needed. Largely pest-free and deer resistant. Blue Stem goldenrod is a particularly well-behaved, compact species that does not spread aggressively, making it easier to manage in garden borders than some other goldenrods. The golden flower plumes in late summer and fall are excellent for pollinators.
