Planting Tips

Plant in average to lean, well-drained soil. Space 2–3 feet apart. Water thoroughly after planting. This native prairie grass thrives in lean, dry conditions.

Care Tips

Water regularly the first season; once established it is highly drought tolerant. Cut back to 4–6 inches in late winter or early spring before new growth begins. Do not cut back in fall- the golden seed heads and warm fall color provide outstanding winter structure and wildlife habitat. Divide every 4–5 years in spring. No fertilization needed. Largely pest-free. The stunning golden-bronze fall color and upright, arching habit make indiangrass one of the most beautiful native grasses for four-season interest.
