David Austin® The Ancient Mariner® Rose

Plant in spring or fall in fertile, well-drained soil, spacing 4–5 feet apart. This is a larger, more vigorous English rose that benefits from generous spacing and soil preparation. Dig a wide, deep planting hole, amend liberally with compost, and water deeply. Mulch well and choose a site with excellent air circulation. Allow adequate room for this rose to develop its full, arching character.

Prune in early spring, removing dead wood and cutting healthy canes back by about one-third. Deadhead spent blooms to encourage repeat flowering. Fertilize every four to six weeks from spring through late summer. The Ancient Mariner produces very large, pale blush-pink blooms with an exquisite, strong fragrance described as a blend of old rose and myrrh.
