Planting and Care Guide

Planting Tips

Plant in spring or fall, spacing 4–5 feet apart in fertile, well-drained soil. This is a larger, more climbing English rose that can be grown as a substantial shrub or trained on a fence, pillar, or trellis. Dig a wide, generous planting hole, amend with compost, and water deeply. Mulch well and provide support if training as a climber.

Care Tips

Prune in early spring, removing dead wood and shaping or tying in canes to any support structure. Deadhead spent blooms to encourage continuous flowering throughout the season. Fertilize every four to six weeks during the growing season. The Lark Ascending has excellent disease resistance and produces beautiful, peachy-apricot blooms with a strong, fruity fragrance. One of the most versatile and rewarding of the David Austin collection.
