Julia Child opens buttery gold, fully double with about 35 petals, and carries a strong licorice-clove fragrance that most yellow roses do not have. Rosa 'WEKvossutono', sold as Julia Child™, grows 3 to 4 feet tall and wide in full sun, hardy from Zone 5 through Zone 8.
Bloom starts in late spring and repeats through fall, in flushes rather than continuously, and the flowers age to a softer pale yellow as they mature. They cut well.
The habit is rounded and bushy, dense enough to work as a low hedge, a single plant in a bed, or a container in warmer zones. The foliage is glossy mid-green and holds up through humid summers without an intensive spray program. It won the All-America Rose Selections award in 2006.
Full sun and well-drained soil give the heaviest bloom and the best disease resistance. Give it room for air movement rather than crowding it against a fence. Shipped on its own roots.
