First Prize Hybrid Tea Rose

Plant in spring or fall in fertile, well-drained soil, spacing 24–30 inches apart. First Prize is a classic hybrid tea with enormous, high-centered, exhibition-quality blooms in deep rose-pink that are among the most spectacular in the hybrid tea class. Dig a wide planting hole, incorporate compost, and water deeply. Apply mulch. Full sun and excellent air circulation are essential.

Prune in early spring, removing dead wood and reducing canes by about one-third. Deadhead spent blooms consistently for continuous flowering. Fertilize every four to six weeks from spring through late summer. Water at the base to keep foliage dry. First Prize is grown by exhibitors and gardeners who want the most perfect, high-centered rose blooms possible. The large, classically formed flowers are outstanding for cutting and show display.
