Swamp Rose

Plant in moist to wet, well-drained to poorly drained soil. Space 5–6 feet apart. Water thoroughly after planting. This native rose thrives in wet conditions where few other roses would survive.

Water consistently and generously- swamp rose naturally grows along stream banks and in moist, boggy areas. Tolerates seasonal flooding. Prune out the oldest canes at the base in early spring to encourage vigorous new growth. Remove dead wood as needed. Fertilize lightly in spring. The single, soft pink flowers in early summer are attractive to pollinators, followed by bright red hips in fall that persist through winter and are excellent for birds. Largely pest-free for a rose.
