White Rugosa Rosa

Plant in spring or fall in well-drained soil, spacing 4–5 feet apart. White rugosa is exceptionally tough and adaptable, tolerating sandy soils, coastal salt spray, cold, and drought conditions that would stress most roses. Minimal soil preparation is needed. Dig the planting hole to the depth of the root ball and water well. Rugosa roses establish readily without special treatment.

Prune lightly in early spring to remove dead wood and shape. Rugosa roses are largely self-sufficient once established — they have outstanding disease resistance and require minimal care. The single white flowers with a strong, sweet fragrance are followed by large, ornamental rose hips in fall. No heavy fertilizing is needed. An excellent, tough, low-maintenance rose for difficult sites and seaside gardens.
