Scarlet Flower Carpet® Rose carries double flowers in a brilliant scarlet-red that covers the glossy foliage from late spring to frost. Rosa Flower Carpet Scarlet grows 24 to 32 inches tall and spreads 38 to 40 inches in full sun, hardy from Zone 5 through Zone 8.
The flowers are fully double rather than the semi-doubles most of the line carries, which gives them more substance and a more traditional rose shape.
Flower Carpet roses were bred in Germany for landscape performance rather than cut-flower form: a low spreading habit, continuous bloom, and enough disease resistance to go without spraying. They are self-cleaning, so no deadheading, and they fill in to the ground rather than going bare at the base.
This one runs taller and narrower than the spreading types, closer to a low shrub than a groundcover, which makes it usable in a border or as a low informal hedge. Cut back by about a third in late winter. Shipped on its own roots.
