Plant in spring or fall in fertile, well-drained soil. Dig a wide, generous planting hole and amend with compost. Set the bud union (the swollen knob where canes meet the rootstock) at or just below soil level. Space 24–30 inches apart and water deeply after planting. Mulch 3 inches deep around the base, keeping mulch away from the canes.

Prune in early spring when forsythia blooms, removing dead canes and shaping the plant. Fertilize regularly throughout the growing season with a rose-specific fertilizer — monthly applications from spring through late summer are ideal. Deadhead spent blooms to encourage repeat flowering. Monitor for black spot and treat early if needed. Water at the base to keep foliage dry.
