Planting Tips

Plant in moist, well-drained, slightly acidic soil amended with generous amounts of compost. Dig a hole twice as wide as the root ball. Space 15–20 feet apart. Water thoroughly after planting and mulch 3–4 inches deep, keeping mulch well away from the trunk.

Care Tips

Water deeply and regularly the first 2–3 seasons while establishing a strong root system. Once established it tolerates moderate drought but performs best with consistent moisture. Little pruning is needed- remove any dead or crossing branches in late spring after flowering. Avoid heavy pruning, which can disrupt the natural form. Fertilize lightly in spring with an acid fertilizer. The profuse, butter-yellow flowers in early spring before the leaves emerge are exceptional. Largely pest-free.
