Planting Tips

Plant in moist, well-drained, humus-rich soil. Space 12–15 inches apart. Water thoroughly after planting and mulch to retain moisture. Virginia bluebells go dormant in summer- plant companions nearby to fill the gap.

Care Tips

Water consistently during the spring growing season. After blooming in mid-spring, the foliage yellows and dies back naturally by early summer- this is normal. Do not remove the foliage before it dies back on its own. The plant rests through summer dormancy and re-emerges the following spring. Allow self-seeding to perpetuate the planting. Largely pest-free. The nodding clusters of sky-blue, trumpet-shaped flowers in spring are among the most beautiful of any native wildflower.
