Planting Tips

Plant in average to lean, well-drained to dry soil. Highly adaptable to poor, sandy, and rocky soils. Space 6–8 feet apart. Water thoroughly after planting.

Care Tips

Water regularly after planting; once established it is highly drought tolerant. Tiger Eyes sumac spreads by suckering- remove suckers from around the base if you want to control spread, or allow them to form a colony. For the most vivid golden foliage, cut the entire plant back hard to the ground every 2–3 years in early spring- this produces large, brilliantly colored leaves on vigorous new shoots. Largely pest-free. The golden, deeply dissected foliage turns vivid orange-red in fall.
