Planting and Care Guide

Planting Tips

Plant in average to lean, well-drained to dry soil. Space 3–4 feet apart. Water thoroughly after planting. This native shrub has a deep taproot- choose a permanent location and avoid moving it once established.

Care Tips

Water regularly the first season; once established it is highly drought tolerant and thrives in lean, dry conditions where little else performs well. Little pruning is needed. Prune lightly in early spring if shaping is desired. No fertilization needed in lean soil. Largely pest-free and deer resistant. The clusters of tiny white flowers in late spring to early summer are highly attractive to native bees and butterflies. New Jersey Tea was historically used to make a tea-like beverage and is a valuable native plant for pollinators.
