Planting and Care Guide

Planting Tips

Plant in spring or fall in moist, average soil, spacing 18–24 inches apart. Baby Joe is a compact, dwarf Joe Pye weed — significantly smaller than the standard species — bringing the same butterfly-attracting, rose-purple flowers to smaller garden spaces. It adapts to average to moist conditions without special preparation. Water regularly for the first few weeks after planting.

Care Tips

Cut back by about one-half in late spring to encourage a bushier, more compact plant. Cut to the ground in late fall or early spring. Divide every three to four years in spring to maintain vigor. No heavy fertilizing needed. Baby Joe's compact habit makes the giant Joe Pye weed's outstanding pollinator value accessible to gardeners with limited space. Outstanding late-season nectar source for monarch butterflies and other pollinators.
