Planting and Care Guide

Planting Tips

Plant in average to lean, well-drained to dry soil. Space 15–25 feet apart. Water thoroughly after planting. Highly adaptable to poor, rocky, and dry soils.

Care Tips

Water regularly after planting; once established it is highly drought tolerant. Little pruning is needed- remove any dead branches as needed. No fertilization generally needed. Eastern red cedar is one of the most adaptable native trees available, thriving in conditions where little else grows. The aromatic, reddish-brown wood, blue-gray berry-like cones eaten by birds throughout winter, and dense evergreen foliage make it a highly valuable native tree for wildlife and windbreaks. Largely pest-free.
