Planting and Care Guide

Planting Tips

Plant in spring or fall in average, well-drained to moist soil, spacing 12–18 inches apart. Grape Gumball produces round, ball-shaped flower heads in deep lavender-purple — an unusual and charming form in the bee balm family. It has improved mildew resistance compared to older varieties. Incorporate compost into the planting area and water well. Choose a site with good air circulation.

Care Tips

Cut back by about one-half after the first main bloom to encourage additional flowering and fresh growth. Good air circulation minimizes powdery mildew. Divide every two to three years in spring. Fertilize lightly in spring. The round, ball-shaped flower heads in deep lavender give Grape Gumball a distinctive character different from typical spreading bee balm flowers. Attractive to hummingbirds, butterflies, and bees throughout the summer months.
