Planting and Care Guide

Planting Tips

Plant in spring in acidic, moist, well-drained soil, spacing 12–18 inches apart. Lingonberry requires acidic conditions similar to blueberries — test your soil pH and amend with peat moss or sulfur to bring the pH to 4.5–5.5 if needed. Mulch generously with pine bark or acidic wood chips to maintain soil acidity and moisture. Water well after planting.

Care Tips

Fertilize with an acid-formulated fertilizer in early spring. Keep soil consistently moist throughout the growing season — lingonberry does not tolerate drought well. The glossy evergreen leaves are attractive year-round, and the bright red berries are edible and tart, excellent for jams and sauces. Light pruning in early spring can tidy the plants if needed. An underused but rewarding edible groundcover.
