Black Satin Thornless Blackberry

Plant in spring in fertile, well-drained soil, spacing 3–4 feet apart. Black Satin is a productive, thornless blackberry variety with large, sweet, shiny black berries and very manageable, thorn-free canes. Prepare the planting bed well with generous amounts of compost. Install posts and wires for support before planting. Water well after planting and mulch generously.

Blackberries produce on second-year canes — after harvest, remove all canes that fruited to the ground to make room for new growth. Tip-prune new canes in summer to encourage lateral branching. Fertilize in spring. Water consistently during fruit development. Black Satin's thornless canes make maintenance and harvest very easy and comfortable. Large, sweet berries with good flavor and high yields make this a rewarding variety for the home garden.
