Bristol Black Raspberry

Plant in spring in fertile, well-drained soil, spacing 3–4 feet apart. Bristol is a classic, high-yielding black raspberry variety with large, sweet, intensely flavored berries and good disease resistance. Prepare the planting bed by incorporating generous amounts of compost. Black raspberries prefer well-drained to slightly dry conditions — avoid wet soils. Mulch well and water after planting.

Tip-prune new canes in summer when they reach 24–30 inches to encourage branching and more fruit the following year. After harvest, remove all canes that fruited to the ground. Fertilize in spring. Water consistently during fruit development. Bristol is one of the most productive and time-tested black raspberry varieties for the home garden. The intensely flavored, sweet-tart berries are outstanding for fresh eating, jam, and baking.
