Polana Raspberry

Plant in spring or fall in fertile, well-drained soil, spacing 24–30 inches apart. Polana is a fall-fruiting red raspberry variety that produces two crops — a small summer crop on old canes and a large fall crop on new canes. Prepare the planting bed well by incorporating generous amounts of compost. Install posts and wires for support before planting. Water well after planting and mulch generously.

The simplest management approach: cut all canes to the ground in late winter or early spring. This sacrifices the small summer crop but produces an abundant, excellent fall harvest with minimal work. In warmer climates, you can also retain the best summer canes for a double crop. Fertilize in early spring and again in early summer. Water consistently during fruiting. Net if needed to protect from birds.
