Pink Spike Bugbane

Plant in moist, well-drained, humus-rich soil. Space 18–24 inches apart. Water thoroughly after planting and mulch to retain moisture.

Water consistently throughout the season- bugbane prefers reliably moist conditions and will decline in dry soil. The tall, wand-like spikes of small, bottlebrush-like flowers in late summer and fall are elegant and unusual. Cut back to the ground in late fall or early spring. Divide every 4–5 years in spring if desired- established clumps can be left undisturbed for many years. Largely pest-free. The rich, dark, bronze-purple foliage of pigmented selections provides excellent long-season contrast in shaded borders.
