Planting Tips

Plant in average to lean, well-drained soil. Space 12–18 inches apart. Water thoroughly after planting. Lean, dry conditions and excellent drainage produce the best growth.

Care Tips

Water regularly after planting; once established it is highly drought tolerant. Deadhead or shear back spent spikes for continuous bloom over a very long season. Cut to the ground in late fall or early spring. Divide every 3–4 years in spring. Largely pest-free and deer resistant. The deep cherry-red flower spikes are richly colored and produced prolifically over an exceptionally long season from midsummer through fall. Irresistible to hummingbirds. A striking, long-blooming perennial for hot, sunny borders.
