Plant in moist, well-drained, humus-rich soil. Space 3-4 feet apart. Water thoroughly after planting and mulch generously.

Water consistently and generously- goatsbeard prefers reliable moisture and performs best in cool, moist woodland and shade garden conditions. The tall, feathery, creamy-white plumes in early summer are extraordinary- like an oversized astilbe. Cut back spent flower plumes to tidy the plant. Cut to the ground in late fall or early spring. Divide every 4–5 years in spring if desired- established clumps are long-lived. Largely pest-free and deer resistant. One of the most impressive native shade perennials available.
