Plant in moist to wet, humus-rich soil. Space 3-4 feet apart. Water thoroughly after planting and mulch generously to retain moisture.

Water consistently and generously- goatsbeard naturally grows in moist, woodland conditions and thrives with reliable moisture. It does not perform well in dry soil. Avoid transplanting once established, as it has a deep root system that resents disturbance. Little pruning is needed; cut back dead stems in late fall or early spring. Divide only if absolutely necessary, and do so in early spring. Largely pest-free. The feathery white plumes in early summer are graceful and striking in the shade garden.
