Pairs well with

Yellow My Darling opens rich yellow and ages to creamy yellow, so a plant in flower carries both tones. Echinacea Color Coded Yellow My Darling grows 18 to 24 inches tall and 16 to 20 inches wide in full sun to part sun, hardy from Zone 4 through Zone 8.

The flowers sit above dark green foliage that sets off the color, and bloom runs from summer into fall. They are lightly fragrant.

Leave the last seedheads standing at the end of the season for goldfinches. The compact size suits a container or the front of a border.

Coneflowers take drought, heat, humidity, and poor soil once established, and they want well-drained ground. Winter wet is the usual cause of failure, so avoid low spots that stay saturated. Deer generally leave them alone.

Planting and Care Guide

Planting Tips

Plant in average to lean, well-drained soil. Space 18–24 inches apart. Water thoroughly after planting and mulch lightly.

Care Tips

Water consistently the first season; once established it is quite drought tolerant. Deadhead spent blooms or leave seed heads for birds. Cut to the ground in late fall or early spring. Divide every 3–4 years in spring. Watch for aster yellows- remove and discard infected plants immediately. The bright, clear yellow flowers with a golden cone are vivid and cheerful- a warm, luminous yellow for the summer border without being overpowering. Largely otherwise pest-free.
