Plant in spring or fall in average, well-drained soil. Space 18–24 inches apart. Water thoroughly after planting and mulch lightly around the base.

Water consistently the first season; once established, coneflowers are quite drought tolerant. Deadhead spent blooms to encourage continued flowering through summer and fall, or leave some for birds in winter. Cut back to the ground in late fall or early spring. Divide every 3–4 years in spring to maintain vigor. Watch for aster yellows- distorted or oddly colored growth means the plant is infected; remove and discard immediately.
