Plant in average to lean, well-drained soil. Space 18–24 inches apart. Water thoroughly after planting and mulch lightly.

Water consistently the first season; once established it is quite drought tolerant. Deadhead spent blooms for continuous flowering, or leave seed heads for birds. Cut to the ground in late fall or early spring. Divide every 3–4 years in spring. Watch for aster yellows- remove and discard any distorted or infected plants immediately. The vivid, flat-petaled, scarlet-red flowers with a dark cone are bold and richly colored- a striking, unusually saturated scarlet for an echinacea. Largely otherwise pest-free.
