Frankly Scarlet opens a bright scarlet-orange that holds its color rather than fading through the season. Echinacea Color Coded Frankly Scarlet grows 26 to 28 inches tall and 16 to 20 inches wide in full sun to part sun, hardy from Zone 4 through Zone 8.
Bloom starts in early summer and continues into fall on a compact, well-branched plant that flowers heavily. The blooms are lightly fragrant.
At a little over two feet this sits comfortably in the middle of a border, and the stems hold the flowers upright without staking.
Leave the last seedheads standing at the end of the season for goldfinches. Coneflowers take drought, heat, humidity, and poor soil once established, and they want well-drained ground. Winter wet is the usual cause of failure, so avoid low spots that stay saturated. Deer generally leave them alone.
