Pairs well with

Firefinch shifts from red to pink to orange as the flowers age, so a single plant carries all three at once. Echinacea Summersong Firefinch™ grows 12 to 16 inches tall and 16 to 18 inches wide in full sun to part sun, hardy from Zone 4 through Zone 8.

Bloom runs from summer into fall, and the flowers are lightly fragrant.

At just over a foot this is a genuine dwarf, which puts it in a container, a rock garden, or the front row of a border where taller coneflowers would block what sits behind them.

Leave the last seedheads standing at the end of the season for goldfinches. Coneflowers take drought, heat, humidity, and poor soil once established, and they want well-drained ground. Winter wet is the usual cause of failure, so avoid low spots that stay saturated. Deer generally leave them alone.

Planting and Care Guide

Planting Tips

Plant in average to lean, well-drained soil. Space 18–24 inches apart. Water thoroughly after planting and mulch lightly.

Care Tips

Water consistently the first season; once established it is quite drought tolerant. Deadhead spent blooms or leave seed heads for birds. Cut to the ground in late fall or early spring. Divide every 3–4 years in spring. Watch for aster yellows- remove and discard infected plants immediately. Firefinch® produces vivid, warm-toned flowers in orange-red tones with an attractive dark central cone over a long season. A bold, vivid, and reliable coneflower for the summer border. Largely otherwise pest-free.
