Yellow Barrenwort

Plant in spring or fall in moist, well-drained to dry soil in partial to full shade, spacing 12–18 inches apart. Yellow barrenwort produces cheerful, bright yellow, spurred spring flowers and forms a dense, weed-suppressing groundcover over time. Incorporate compost into the planting area and water well. Mulch to retain moisture through the first season. Tolerates dry shade very well once established.

Cut back old foliage in late winter before new growth begins to showcase the bright spring flowers. Once established, extremely drought tolerant and low maintenance. Spreads gradually by rhizomes to form a dense groundcover. No fertilizing is needed in average soils. The bright yellow spring flowers are cheerful and distinctive. An outstanding groundcover for dry, shaded areas under established trees and shrubs.
