Planting and Care Guide

Planting Tips

Plant in moist, well-drained soil. Space 18–24 inches apart. Water thoroughly after planting and mulch lightly. Good air circulation is important for mildew prevention.

Care Tips

Water regularly throughout the growing season. Deadhead spent flower clusters to extend bloom. Cut to the ground in late fall or early spring. Divide every 3–4 years in spring. Monitor for powdery mildew — the Luminary® series has improved mildew resistance. Fertilize lightly in spring. Ultraviolet produces rich, deeply saturated, vivid violet-purple flowers — an intensely bold, electric color that glows in the midsummer border. The ultra-vivid violet is among the most saturated of any tall garden phlox. Highly attractive to butterflies and hummingbirds.
