Plant in average to lean, well-drained soil. Space 18–24 inches apart. Water thoroughly after planting.

Water consistently the first season; once established it is quite drought tolerant. Deadhead spent blooms for continuous flowering from midsummer through fall, or leave seed heads for birds. Cut to the ground in late fall or early spring. Divide every 3–4 years in spring. Watch for aster yellows- distorted growth indicates infection; remove and discard affected plants. Blackjack Gold is notable for its especially dark, near-black central cone that contrasts boldly with the vivid golden-yellow ray petals. Largely otherwise pest-free.
