Black Scallop Bugleweed

Plant in moist, well-drained to average soil. Space 12–15 inches apart. Water thoroughly after planting and mulch lightly. Ajuga spreads to form a dense groundcover.

Water consistently after planting; once established it tolerates moderate drought, especially in shade. Ajuga spreads by stolons- divide in spring to control spread in smaller spaces. Remove any all-green reversions promptly. Cut off faded flower spikes to tidy the planting. Largely pest-free, though crown rot can occur in poorly drained soil. Black Scallop has exceptionally dark, near-black, glossy, scalloped leaves- one of the most dramatically colored ajuga selections available. The blue-violet flower spikes in spring are a beautiful contrast.
