Planting and Care Guide

Planting Tips

Plant in spring or fall, spacing 4–6 feet apart. Brilliantissima is a red chokeberry selected for its exceptional fall foliage color and abundant, glossy red berries. Like all chokeberries, it adapts to wet soils, clay, and poor conditions — one of the most versatile native shrubs available. No special soil preparation is needed. Dig the planting hole to the depth of the root ball and water well.

Care Tips

Prune in late winter to remove the oldest stems and keep the plant vigorous. This shrub spreads slowly by suckers — remove them to keep a tidy form or allow them to naturalize. The brilliant red fall foliage and persistent red berries make Brilliantissima one of the best fall-interest shrubs available. Birds love the berries. No regular fertilizing is needed. An outstanding, easy-care native shrub.
