Black Dragon Japanese Cedar

Plant in spring or fall in moist, well-drained soil with some shelter from harsh winter winds and intense afternoon sun. Dig the planting hole wide and deep, amend with compost, and water thoroughly. Mulch 3 inches deep to retain moisture and keep roots cool. Keep well watered through the first two growing seasons while the plant establishes itself.

Minimal pruning is needed — the naturally upright form develops well on its own. Remove any dead or damaged branches in early spring. Keep soil consistently moist; this cedar does not tolerate drought well. Its deep, nearly black-green foliage provides striking year-round color. Apply a light balanced fertilizer in spring.
