Planting Tips

Plant in spring or fall in moist, well-drained soil, spacing 18–24 inches apart. This aster prefers consistent moisture and adapts well to partial shade, making it more versatile than many fall-blooming asters. Amend the planting area with compost and water well after planting. Mulch to retain moisture. Choose a site with reasonable air circulation to minimize mildew.

Care Tips

Pinch back stem tips in early summer to promote a bushier habit and more abundant fall bloom. Water consistently throughout the growing season — this aster does not tolerate drought as well as some native species. Divide every two to three years in spring to maintain vigor. An excellent fall-blooming perennial that provides important late-season nectar for pollinators. Fertilize lightly in spring.
