Planting Tips

Sweetshrub spreads by suckering- remove suckers to control spread or allow to naturalize. Prune out dead or oldest stems in early spring. Fertilize lightly in spring. Burgundy Spice has unusually rich, burgundy-tinted foliage that adds ornamental interest beyond the flowers. The uniquely fragrant, dark maroon, strap-petaled flowers are powerfully spicy-sweet and appear over several weeks in late spring to early summer. Largely pest-free.
