Planting and Care Guide

Planting Tips

Plant in moist to wet, well-drained to poorly drained soil. Space 5–7 feet apart. Water thoroughly after planting and mulch generously.

Care Tips

Water consistently and generously- buttonbush thrives in wet, boggy conditions and along stream and pond edges. Tolerates extended periods of flooding. Prune in early spring to shape and remove dead wood. Fertilize lightly in spring. The distinctive, spherical, pincushion-like flowers in summer are excellent for pollinators. The golden-yellow variegated foliage of this selection adds ornamental interest beyond the flowers. Largely pest-free and deer resistant. An outstanding native shrub for wet sites.
