Yo Yo Snow in Summer

Plant in spring or fall in well-drained to dry soil in full sun, spacing 12–18 inches apart. Snow in summer (Cerastium) is a drought-tolerant perennial groundcover with silvery-white, woolly foliage and masses of white flowers in late spring. It thrives in lean, gravelly, sandy, and rocky soils — avoid rich, wet, or clay soils, which cause it to flop and rot. Good drainage is essential.

Cut back by about one-half after the flower display to keep plants compact and tidy and prevent them from spreading too aggressively. Snow in summer spreads by stolons and can be vigorous in ideal conditions — manage spread by edging or shearing periodically. No fertilizing is needed in lean soils. The silver foliage provides attractive ground-level color all season. Excellent for hot, dry slopes and rock gardens.
