Cherry Delight Crape Myrtle

Plant in spring after all frost risk has passed, in a warm, sunny location with well-drained soil. Crape myrtle thrives in heat and requires maximum sun for the best bloom. Dig the planting hole to the same depth as the root ball and two to three times as wide. Water thoroughly after planting and mulch 2–3 inches around the base. It establishes quickly in warm, sunny conditions.

Prune lightly in early spring to remove any dead wood and shape the plant — avoid the common mistake of 'crape murder,' or topping, which ruins the natural form and produces weak, ugly regrowth. Remove seed heads after bloom if desired to encourage additional flowering. Crape myrtle is drought tolerant once established. Fertilize lightly in spring. The attractive exfoliating bark provides beautiful winter interest.
