Planting Tips

Plant in average to lean, well-drained to dry soil. Space 8–12 feet apart. Water thoroughly after planting.

Care Tips

Water regularly after planting; once established it is highly drought tolerant. For the most vivid foliage color and a more compact, shrub-like form, cut hard back to the ground every 2–3 years in early spring- this sacrifices the smoky plumes but produces dramatically larger, more richly colored leaves on vigorous new shoots. If the smoky effect is desired, prune lightly. The Velvet Fog® has exceptionally soft, velvety, blue-green foliage with outstanding smoky plumes- a particularly refined smokebush selection. Largely pest-free.
