Planting Tips

Plant in average to lean, well-drained to dry soil. Space 4–6 feet apart. Water thoroughly after planting.

Care Tips

Water regularly after planting; once established it is highly drought tolerant and adaptable to lean, dry, rocky, and poor soils. Little pruning is needed- remove any dead or crossing branches in early spring. No fertilization generally needed. The small white flowers in spring attract pollinators, and the brilliant scarlet-red berries in fall and winter are outstanding for birds. The vivid orange-red fall foliage adds an additional season of interest. Largely pest-free. An excellent, tough, low-maintenance shrub for difficult dry sites.
