Planting and Care Guide

Planting Tips

Plant in spring or fall, spacing 3–4 feet apart in fertile, well-drained soil. Dig a generous planting hole, amend with compost, and water deeply after planting. Mulch 2–3 inches around the base and choose a location with good air circulation. Desdemona is a compact and well-behaved variety that fits well into mixed borders.

Care Tips

Prune in early spring, removing all dead wood and reducing healthy canes by about one-third. Deadhead spent blooms throughout the season to keep new flowers forming. Fertilize monthly from spring through late summer. Desdemona produces soft blush-pink to white blooms with a delightful myrrh fragrance — beautiful for cutting. Good disease resistance makes this variety notably easy to care for.
