Planting and Care Guide

Planting Tips

Plant in spring or fall in fertile, well-drained soil, spacing about 4 feet apart. Dig a wide, generous planting hole, incorporate compost into the backfill, and water thoroughly. Apply mulch around the base and select a spot with good air movement. This is a vigorous, upright-growing English rose that benefits from adequate spacing.

Care Tips

Prune in early spring, cutting healthy canes back by about one-third. Deadhead consistently throughout the season to encourage continuous flowering. Fertilize every four to six weeks during the growing season with a rose fertilizer. Susan William-Ellis is known for its intensely fragrant, pink rosette flowers — a wonderful old-rose scent. Water at the base of the plant rather than overhead to keep foliage dry.
