Planting and Care Guide

Planting Tips

Plant in spring or fall, spacing 3–4 feet apart in fertile, well-drained soil. Dig a wide planting hole, incorporate compost into the backfill, and water deeply after planting. Apply mulch around the base. The Mayflower is one of the hardier David Austin varieties, making it an excellent choice for gardens in colder climates where some other English roses may struggle.

Care Tips

Prune in early spring, removing dead wood and cutting healthy canes back by about one-third. Deadhead spent blooms consistently to encourage continuous flowering through the season. Fertilize monthly from spring through late summer. The Mayflower produces neat, rosette-shaped, warm pink blooms with a strong, classic old-rose fragrance. Its exceptional cold hardiness and very good disease resistance make it one of the most dependable and easy-to-grow English roses available.
