Planting and Care Guide

Planting Tips

Plant in spring in average, well-drained soil, spacing 18–24 inches apart. Adobe Orange produces warm, terracotta-orange flowers with a dark central cone on a compact, well-branched plant. It adapts to average garden conditions without special preparation. Water regularly for the first few weeks after planting, then reduce as the plant establishes. Handles heat and dry conditions well.

Care Tips

Deadhead spent blooms to encourage continuous flowering, or leave seed heads for birds in fall. Divide every three to four years in early spring. No heavy fertilizing is needed. The warm, earthy orange-terracotta color pairs beautifully with golds, reds, and bronzes in the late summer garden. An important nectar plant for bees and butterflies. The compact Sombrero series is one of the best for smaller garden spaces.
