Sombrero Tango Tangerine opens a clear tangerine orange around a dark cone, brighter and more yellow-leaning than the deeper orange selections. Echinacea 'Balsomotan', sold as Sombrero Tango Tangerine, grows 18 to 20 inches tall and 18 to 22 inches wide in full sun to part sun, hardy from Zone 4 through Zone 8.
Bloom starts in early summer and continues into fall. Deadheading keeps it going, and the stems are stiff enough to hold the flowers without staking.
This is one of the smaller Sombreros, which puts it in a container, a narrow bed, or the front row of a border.
Leave the last seedheads standing at the end of the season for goldfinches. Coneflowers take drought, heat, humidity, and poor soil once established, and they want well-drained ground. Winter wet is the usual cause of failure, so avoid low spots that stay saturated. Deer generally leave them alone.
