Pairs well with

Artisan Soft Orange opens deep orange and lightens as the flowers age, so a plant in bloom carries several tones at once. Echinacea 'PAS1308374', sold as Artisan Soft Orange, grows 16 to 28 inches tall and 10 to 24 inches wide in full sun to part sun, hardy from Zone 4 through Zone 9.

Bloom starts early, from midsummer into early fall, on a well-branched plant with a high bud count. The flowers are large and lightly scented, and they cut well.

It flowers the first season after planting, and the foliage stays dense to the ground rather than going bare at the base.

Leave the last seedheads standing at the end of the season for goldfinches. Coneflowers take drought, heat, humidity, and poor soil once established, and they want well-drained ground. Winter wet is the usual cause of failure, so avoid low spots that stay saturated. Deer generally leave them alone.

Exceptional Roses

EXCEPTIONAL ROSES!

Recently, I received a #3 pot Wollerton Old Hall Rose, a #3 Alnwick Rose, and a #2 pot Sweet Mademoiselle rose from Spotswood Greenery. I could not be more pleased and grateful. All plants are in perfect condition. Each is supported by incredibly healthy roots, several Charles Atlas-like stems, and beautiful foliage. Packaging was very secure. Clearly done with care! Shipping was quite prompt. Now, pricing! I've grown roses for 40 of my 67 years. In that time, it's easy for me to say that Spotswood has exceeded every other source without question. I found three roses in stock I had wanted! The quality is champion! The prices are very good, excellent when one buys at the free shipping level! Worth every penny! Thank you, every one, on the Spotswood Greenery Team!

Quick shipping

Bought a David Austin rose; it arrived quickly however it had some damage upon arrival. Ended up pruning and defoliating a good bit to get rid of the broken cane and pest damage, but I expect it to be a beautiful bush down the road.

Planting and Care Guide

Planting Tips

Plant in spring or fall in average, well-drained soil. Space 18–24 inches apart. Water thoroughly after planting and mulch around the base.

Care Tips

Plant in full sun, at least 6 hours a day.
Plant in average, well-drained soil. Rich or wet soil, especially in winter, is the main cause of loss, and the hybrids are less forgiving than the species.
Water through the first summer; established plants handle drought.
Feed lightly, if at all. Extra fertilizer makes floppy stems.
Remove spent flowers to keep new ones coming. Leave the last flower heads standing in fall; on single-flowered types, goldfinches and other seed-eating birds feed on the seeds into winter.
Do not cut plants back in fall. Cut old stems to the ground in early spring.
Divide only when a plant gets crowded, about every 4 years, in spring. Many hybrids do best left undivided.
Aster yellows causes distorted, green-tufted flowers. Pull out and discard an affected plant; it does not recover.
Japanese beetles feed on the flowers in summer, and rabbits eat young shoots in spring.
